BOMMA’s Fragments: Lighting as Sculptural Poetry
BOMMA has quickly become one of the most compelling voices in contemporary sculptural lighting design. Founded in 2012 in the Czech Republic, the brand builds on the region’s centuries-old Bohemian glassmaking heritage while propelling it into the future through technology, experimentation, and bold creative direction.
BOMMA is defined by its mastery of hand-blown glass and its pursuit of pushing artisanship into new sculptural territories, a philosophy beautifully embodied in the Fragments collection.
Fragments – Where Glass, Light, and Sustainability Converge
Among BOMMA’s most captivating collections to date, Fragments stands out for its poetic approach to sustainability. Instead of relying solely on newly made glass, the collection introduces Fragmentglass – a material born from recycled glass shards left over from previous production cycles. These remnants are carefully selected, melted, and recomposed into entirely new crystalline forms.
Alchemy is remarkable: what began as waste becomes a gemstone-like pendant, rich with texture, depth, and internal complexity. Because the positioning of each shard inside the molten glass is unpredictable, no two pieces are ever the same. Every light tells its own story.
This interplay of craftsmanship and transformation gives Fragments its sculptural presence.
A Collection Defined by Texture, Shadow, and Atmosphere
Fragments is offered in two pendant sizes, short and long, allowing designers to scale the light for single spaces or dramatic compositions. The palette is modern yet nuanced:
- Black: bold and architectural, emphasizing depth
- White: airy and refined, ideal for soft luminosity
- Flamingo Mint: a delicate, unexpected tone with subtle color refractions
These are paired with fittings in brushed gold or anthracite, enabling the light to adapt to either warm, intimate environments or sharper, contemporary interiors.
Beyond its materiality, what truly distinguishes Fragments is the behavior of light within each piece. The irregular shards act as prisms, refracting illumination in layered, unpredictable ways.
In a world of uniform lighting solutions, Fragments become an object of emotional atmosphere – lighting that moves, reacts, and transforms a room.

Fragments at Downtown Design 2025 – Presented by OBEGI Home
At this year’s Downtown Design, Fragments served as one of the defining elements of OBEGI Home’s curated stand. More than a display, the installation was designed to showcase how BOMMA’s glass artistry interacts with surrounding architecture and materials, illuminating furniture, casting shadows on sculptural surfaces, and setting the tone for the full exhibition.
Visitors were able to experience firsthand how Fragments transforms a space not only visually, but emotionally.
As the exclusive dealers of BOMMA in the region, OBEGI Home brings this collection as a testament to how design can reshape both space and atmosphere.
